Tonga's Prime Minister told parliament yesterday, Thursday September 20, that he wanted to send all members to prison, including himself, because they did not take action on an Auditor General's annual report from 2012-13 that had been previously presented to parliament. He said that they would only do their prison time at the weekends in the morning, and members would take turns. From the House by Pesi Fonua.

The reasoning behind the Tongan Parliament's urgent push to work seven hours overtime on the 8th and 12th March in order to pass five bills that don’t address Tonga’s immediate Cyclone Recovery needs, remains a mystery to the public and some Members of Parliament. Three of the five bills grant the Reserve Bank more control over moneylenders while the two other bills regard foreign exchange levies and Pacific Games taxation incentives.

Responding to social media commentary, Tonga's Acting Attorney General 'Aminiasi Kefu came out to set the record straight that the King's personal Royal prerogative to dissolve Tonga’s Legislative Assembly "is not limited by law and any legal action taken against this dissolution will be dismissed immediately by the Courts." He was responding to views circulated by Lopeti Senituli, a former Government CEO, who was urging the government to take legal action against the King's decision.

The Tongan Parliament rejected the Motion for a Vote of No Confidence in the Prime Minister Hon. 'Akilisi Pohiva with votes of 14-10 this afternoon, Monday 27 February. A large haul of illicit drugs seized in Vava’u from a yacht called 'JeReVe' in 2012 was destroyed by authorities in Australia, Tonga's Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell confirmed today in response to allegations raised in Parliament by Lord Tu'ilakepa. He said the comments by MPs were unfounded and attacked the reputation of the police.

Tonga’s former Speaker of Parliament Lord Lasike, who was removed from parliament in 2012 is to be paid $223,385 pa’anga in remuneration by the Kingdom of Tonga, in lieu of a salary that he would have earned as a member of the Legislative Assembly and as Speaker from July 9, 2012 to November 24, 2014, ruled the Lord Chief Justice on February 2.
