A new modern domestic wharf and terminal named Taufa’ahau Tupou IV Wharf was commissioned by King Tupou VI this morning, Friday, June 1. Funded with over $60 million pa’anga by the Government of Japan - its biggest grant aid to Tonga to date - the new wharf is expected to significantly boost domestic cargo volumes and passenger traffic.

'Akilisi Pohiva did not attend the opening of the Tongan Parliament 2018 session, this morning, 11 January and no mention of his absence was made, in what was called a "Huufi Fakalotofale 'o e Fale Alea 'o Tonga" or "in-house" session. The MPs will take their oath of office on a later day to be announced.

Responding to social media commentary, Tonga's Acting Attorney General 'Aminiasi Kefu came out to set the record straight that the King's personal Royal prerogative to dissolve Tonga’s Legislative Assembly "is not limited by law and any legal action taken against this dissolution will be dismissed immediately by the Courts." He was responding to views circulated by Lopeti Senituli, a former Government CEO, who was urging the government to take legal action against the King's decision.
