Tongan women are using their cultural values and upbringing as a framework to build strong leadership in their workplaces, according to a new study from Massey University. Seluvaia Malua-Paea says leadership is about igniting the light in others and strength isn’t necessarily about being dominant.

Nine Pacific Islander students in New Zealand were among 13 recipients of the Woolf Fisher First-in-Family AUT Scholarship to study at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). All of the recipients are the first in their immediate families to attend university and this year five are Tongans.

Nearly half a million pa’anga was committed by the Government of Japan on 27 February, to fund three projects aimed to improve the quality of life of people from the grassroots level, and includes the upgrading of a technical course classroom building at Tonga College, installing a flake ice machine with water tanks for ‘Uiha and Felemea in Ha'apai and two new ambulances for 'Eua and Ha'apai.

A group of 22 United States Peace Corps volunteers were sworn-in today Thursday, November 3, at the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel before they take up assignments teaching English in rural village schools in Tongatapu and the outer islands. U.S Ambassador to Tonga Judith Cefkin said that next year marks the 50th Anniversary of Peace Corps in Tonga.

A four-day regional training workshop to support school readiness and reading for Pacific children and teachers, is underway in Nuku’alofa this week with 50 participants from eight Pacific Island countries and development partners including practitioners attending. The workshop is part of the Pacific Early Age Readiness and Learning (PEARL) Program funded through the Global Partnership for Education and led by the World Bank.

They cite "maladministration, incompetency, destruction or embezzlement of government property" and creating "difficulties with another country".

And if the Minister is referring to Goodlad and Sirotnik's concept of moral dimension then he's turning a blind eye at how his reforms are being currently carried out in the education ministry as far from being moral.

Laluna Kahuna comments: The whole education system in Tonga needs an overhaul. Starting with the hot shots in Ministry of Education, school Principals, teachers etc. Start by sacking all those teachers who do not turn up for school to teach or for lack of teaching, those who physically, mentally and emotionally abuse the students, eating students lunches, having favourites - just to mention a few of the issues wrong with the education here. Tonga's education is still 30-40 years behind the rest of the world.
