What is happening to our 7's
What is happening to our 7's team?
Would like to know what is the issue with the teams today as we are now losing to unknowns in the Rugby World. I hope money is not the excuse as this is unaccepatable or are the foreign teams getting better?
Having playing the game back in the 80's money was never the issue, as talent always prevailed. Not that I was good but I manged to help train and beat the best teams in NZ in the first division with less talented Tongan born talent players so I am trying to understand what is the problem with the players today?
This is a challenge to the young players today. What is your excuse?

A total Embarrassment!
A total Embarrassment! Beaten by Zimbabwe (3rd tier) 41 Zip is a real shame for TRFU. Tonga has been a part of rugby 7s and participated in the Hong Kong Sevens, along side Fiji and Samoa, for such a long time. It looks like Fiji (winner of Hong Kong Sevens 2015) and Samoa are both moving forward whilst Tonga is moving backward (second to last???). I think the problem is that, there is no structure developed in Tonga to nurture and develop the players. All I see here in Tonga is a lots of tournaments (for prize money) popped up here and there. While it may be good (short term) for the players it does a whole lot of damage for rugby in Tonga (long term). Please TRFU develop a structure for rugby then we will start to see some progress otherwise…. Backward we go to rugby oblivion. The comments from the Coach is a total Copout, we've heard it for far toooooo long.
The Tongan Rugby Union board
The Tongan Rugby Union board need to be more proactive with the 7s. The players selected are not necessarily the best players for what is an open running game with lots of speed but still needs the discipline, game plan etc.
Some of the teams in recent times have been very slow and unfit which is unbelievable.
We need to have a round of 7 tournaments with a panel of selectors that are fair in their selection of the squad.
The board needs to support the panel of selectors and as such the squad selected.
We need a very good coach with proven track record (be prepared to lose some money) and can conduct proper video and post game analysis.
