Parliamentary candidates for the outer islands

Forty-five parliamentary candidates, including three women have registered to contest Tonga’s seven outer islands constituencies in the November 27 General Election.

The outer islands have 26 candidates in Vava’u, 11 in Ha’apai, five in ‘Eua and three for Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou. Of its women candidates, two are in Vava’u, one in ‘Eua and none from Ha’apai and the two Niuas.

Nationally, a total of 106 candidates, including 16 women, have registered to contest Tonga's 17 constituencies after two-days of nomination ended last week on Friday, October 24.

The Electoral Commission confirmed Tongatapu had the most candidates with 61 including 13 women contesting its 10 seats.

At the same time, all outer islands incumbents are running except for 'Uliti Uata in Ha'apai 13.

The outer islands incumbents are Sunia Fili for 'Eua 11, Mo'ale Finau in Ha'apai 12, Lisiate 'Akolo in Vava'u 14, Samiu Vaipulu in Vava'u 15, Viliami Uasike Latu in Vava'u 16 and Fe'ao Vakata for Niuas 17.
