HE King Tupou VI

A healthy body for a healthy soul and a healthy mind, HM King Tupou VI told members of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga when he officially open the 89th Annual Conference of the church yesterday morning, June 28, 2012.

He expressed his support of the decision by the church to reduce the number of feasting hours during the conference, and suggested for the church to promote a healthy diet in its conference feasting.

"We teach our children in Sunday School to keep their body as a temple of God, and in that sense there needs to be a healthy body for a healthy soul and mind," he said.

Church conference feasting was usually held four times a day, and over the years there had been efforts to cut down on feasting, and this year it had been cut down to only two a day.

Following the official opening of the conference by the King, the President of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga Rev Dr 'Ahio, who was re-elected the day before, was appointed by the king to be the President of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga for 2012-13. Afterwards, Rev Dr 'Ahio conferred Rev Dr Tevita Havea, who was also re-elected the day before, to his position as General Secretary.

The church conference brought to Nuku'alofa about 1,800 church members from all over the world and throughout Tonga. The conference will end on Tuesday, July 3.
