Women's businesses were showcased tonight at the annual pre-Christmas WISE Market Night, held by Women in Sustainable Enterprises (WISE) Tonga Inc. in central Nuku'alofa. Stall-holders attracted a crowd who were entertained by local musicians as they browsed the food, handicrafts, jewellery and other products with many locally-made products on display and for sale. The market opened at 5:30pm in the Fund Management Ltd. courtyard Hala Taufa'ahau and will run until 9:00pm tonight, Friday.

Tonga is still in the process of ratifying CEDAW - the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women. But Tonga has strong reservations on Article 2, which is the heart of the convention according to a United Nations Committee on the convention, the Minister for Education said today.
