A brand new aviation security x-ray and radio communications equipment was handed over to Tonga Airports Limited staff today, 14 September, at Fua’amotu Airport, by New Zealand High Commissioner to Tonga, HE Sarah Walsh.

Ophelia Kitiliti Kava (23) was crowned Miss Heilala 2017 early this morning Saturday 8 July, at the Miss Heilala Ball held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall. The Auckland receptionist entered the contest as Miss Apraxus New Zealand.

Contestants in this year’s Miss Heilala Pageant looked radiant on Tuesday, July 4 a public holiday for the King’s birthday as they paraded on colourful floats through central Nuku’alofa.

Tonga's MA60 aircraft remains in operation and continues to fly domestically to Vava’u weekly, since the controversial aircraft gifted by China resumed flights last year.

Civil aviation authorities from China and New Zealand and the Pacific Islands looked at how to strengthen civil aviation safety in Tonga, at their meeting from February 15-17, in Nuku'alofa. There was also a push for direct China-Tonga flights.
