Two fishermen whose fibre boat suffered engine failure at sea were rescued by Tonga Police at Ha’aluma Beach in ‘Eua on Saturday, 15 October, a few hours after they failed to return home. The boat had no communications, no life jackets and beacon. Tonga Police urged the public and sea farers to make sure their boats are appropriately equipped with means of communication, life jackets, a beacon and enough food supplies.

Tonga Police are working to identify the body of a man that was found floating in Vaipua Harbour, Vava’u, on 11 October.

A Tongan who was befriended by an overseas scammer online, reported the matter to Tonga Police after the scammer directed the victim to send money. Tonga Police today urged the public to be more cautious when interacting online.

Counterfeit $20, $50 and $100 pa'anga notes have recently been found in Tonga, the National Reserve Bank of Tonga has warned.

Tonga Police allege that alcohol was involved in the road accident where two people died in the early morning of 21 September on Taufa’ahau Road at Nualei. The deceased were the driver, a 28-year-old man from Veitongo, and a passenger a 19-year-old woman from Pātangata. Three people remain in hospital with serious injuries.

A 26-year-old man was found dead at a residence in Puke on Saturday, 17 September. It is reported to be a suicide but an inquest this week will determine the cause of death.

The search has been called off for two men and a teenager, who have been missing at sea for over two-weeks now, after their small boat sank between Niutoua and 'Eueiki. Six men were in the boat: two have survived, one died and three are missing.

A seven-year-old boy died in a shooting incident at a residence in Ha'ateiho, Tongatapu, on Friday evening, 2 September. Tonga Police said children found a loaded .22 rifle in their family vehicle. The 40 year old father of the children has been arrested.
