Tonga steps up its war against drugs with a new Tonga Police College Training Block commissioned by King Tupou VI at an official ceremony yesterday, 23 March at Longolongo. Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell said illicit drugs are a key security challenge for the country, along with COVID-19 and climate change, and there was a commitment for an additional 100 police officers. At the ceremony the King invested the Commissioner and his wife with Royal Orders of the Crown.

A 26-year-old man from Veitongo was arrested on March 16 in relation to the assault on Lord Dalgety (76) during an attempted armed robbery at his home in Ha’ateiiho last month.

A second arrest was made this morning in relation to the four armed robberies at four Chinese retail shops at different locations, in the Nuku'alofa area starting on Saturday, January 9. Tonga Police are looking for a third male suspect.
