An audio recording of the 2014 courtroom shooting of Siale Angilau (of Tongan descent) has been published in Utah. In the dramatic 3-minute long audio recording, at least four gunshots can be heard as Angilau was shot by a U.S. marshal, after he charged towards a witness during a federal racketeering trial aimed at the Tongan Crip Gang.

Violence, intimidation, control and isolation are being used against women in Tonga by some husbands who are seeking to gain "coercive control". Examples of some of the coercive control situations and real cases in Tonga included a man beating up his wife causing injuries to prevent her from going to an event, locking her up in a room when he leaves the house, calling her "ugly and stupid" or threatening her via text messaging.

A statistical report released by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E) has revealed that 22 Tongan immigrants/visitors were deported from the United States in 2016. The number is a significant increase from 2015 when ICE recorded 16 deportations to Tonga.

A Tongan-born and influential Australian Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Pastor, Athal Tolhurst (82), was laid to rest yesterday in Cooranbong, Australia. Tolhurst passed away on August 7 after being airlifted from Tonga where he had suffered a stroke.

Australian Police this week are appealing to the public to help locate a missing person, Amelia Toa Hausia, of Tongan descent, who was last seen at a Canberra shopping mall on December 22, 1992. Australian Police, who require positive identification to confirm if she is still alive, are making the appeal drive as part of their annual “Missing Persons Week”.
