Four new bucket trucks were added to Tonga Power Ltd’s vehicle fleet to help upgrade the electricity distribution network of 33 villages in Tongatapu over the next five-years.

Fuel prices have been lowered, effective since Sunday February 16.

Tonga’s third solar farm is being constructed at Vaini on Tongatapu, at a cost of $14 million (USD) under Japanese aid funding. The project will introduce a special micro-grid system to coordinate electricity generated from a variety of renewable sources in the future.

Ten line staff from the Tonga Power Ltd have won employment contracts with New Zealand’s Northpower Ltd. after completing a two-weeks recruitment boot camp. The group, including one woman, who are expected to migrate with their families in November this year have been called “professionals” and “great ambassadors for Tonga”.

Ten Tonga Power Ltd. lines staff left for New Zealand today to undergo a two-weeks evaluation boot camp in East Tamaki with a view to winning employment contracts with Northpower Ltd.
