The Ministry of Commerce, Tourism & Labour has announced further cuts to fuel prices in addition to the cuts that occurred last month.

Tonga’s national electric company, Tonga Power Ltd has announced an 8.5% reduction in the electricity tariff. The new prices will be effective from this Sunday, February 1.

A model renewable power system for Ha’apai is being developed by a post-graduate student at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Tonga Power Ltd has stated its operational net profit at $4,992,500 Pa’anga (after tax). The figure is a significant rise from last year’s net profit of $2,938,659.

The Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Labour has announced large reductions in the price of fuel from Monday 17 November 2014, when prices for Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will all be lowered.

Petrol prices increased and diesel and kerosene prices decreased in the new fuel prices announced by the Ministry of Commerce for the next month, effective from today October 16 to mid-November.

The Tongan Government has committed to fund a new ‘electricity tariff lifeline’ starting on January 1, 2015 and estimated to cost around $1 million pa‘anga a year.

Cheaper fuel prices have been announced by the Tonga Competent Authority to be effective from Monday 18 August.

The Tonga Competent Authority has approved new fuel prices for the month of June – July 2014. The prices of Diesel and Kerosene have been reduced while the price of petrol has been increased.
