A tornado struck the centre of the village of Ha'alalo in central Tongatapu on Saturday, August 21, blowing off the roof of the village hall, destroying a home with a family inside, hitting a primary school, knocking out the local kava club house, and damaging trees.

The Chairman of Shoreline Communication Ltd., Crown Prince Tupouto'a, this morning, August 23, signed a multi million dollar supply and build contract with Huawei Technologies of China. Huawei Technologies, a high-tech enterprise which specializes in research and development, production and the marketing of communications equipment, was awarded the contract by Shoreline Communication Ltd. for the upgrading and the expanding of its Tonfön wireless telephone network.

During proceedings on the Bill for a National Accreditation and Qualification Act a People's Rep. pointed out that the 30 year old Regulation for the Education Act of 1974 had not been tabled into the House.
