A driver escaped from his car before it was gutted by fire this morning on Vuna Road close to the gates of the Cowley residence. Deputy Fire Commissioner, Sinamoni Kauvaka, in an update this afternoon, said fire fighters responded to the blaze, at around 7:14 am. “a witness who was driving behind this Mazda car...noticed a spark under the car so he overtook the Mazda and warned him”.

A first Tropical Cyclone advisory was issued at noon today, March 2, for Tropical Cyclone Kevin, a category 1 storm that may enter southern Tongan waters late on Sunday, 9 March, if it stays on its forecast track. It follows TC Judy (Cat. 3). Judy is forecast to pass further to the south on Saturday and is not likely to pose any direct threat to Tonga except for the Tele-ki-Tonga and Tele-ki-Tokelau coastal waters.

Filipe Tongamoa (20) was jailed for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm to his passenger, who was on life support for six-days. The court heard that Tongamoa was drunk when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed on Hihifo Road in 2022. He hurt his passengers and another driver.
