Pacific Leaders at a Special Retreat meeting in the Cook Islands on May 5 agreed to overhaul the Pacific Plan. Consultation meetings are currently being held throughout the region, to prepare a draft Framework for Pacific Regionalism, including a consultation meeting in Nuku'alofa last week.

A prisoner told the jury-trial for the civilian accused Semisi Kalisitiane Manu in the death of Kali Fungavaka, he saw Manu punch the victim inside cell 7 causing him to fall banging his head hard on the floor. While, another prisoner alleged to have witnessed beforehand the police beating up Kali “like treating an animal”.

Lord Fusitu’a (42) won the Nobles' By-election for the Niuafo’ou and Niuatoputapu seat in the Tonga Legislative Assembly with two votes this morning, and will take the seat that was vacated by his father, the late Lord Fusitu'a.

In sentencing Fifita ‘Ofa (35) to 13-years imprisonment for the death of her 14-year-old daughter last August, and imposing prison sentences on two others, a Supreme Court judge said today in denouncing their conduct that the repeated beating of the child by her mother and uncle was extremely cruel, and a paramount sentencing was considered to protect children and young persons from violence.
