The quality of Tonga's water supplies will come into focus next week, when stakeholders come together for a workshop to look at water supply and sanitation management. The Water Safety Planning process will result in a Quality Risk Assessment for the Nuku’alofa Water Supply System. At a second workshop, the Ministry of Health and ADB, will present findings from a recent pilot study on Village Water Supply systems in Tongatapu.

Eleven athletes will join the Tonga Athletics Team to attend the Pacific Games 2023 in Solomon Islands later this month. The five men and six women athletes come from Tonga, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. The Pacific Games also serves as an Olympic qualifier for Paris in 2024.

The officer who suffered a broken leg, in December 2022, awaits bone reconstruction experts from Australia next month who will operate to re-connect his fractured femur.

Tonga's delegation, led by the Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku, arrived in the Cook Islands on 3 November for the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum meeting to be held from 6-10 November. The 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent and climate change is high on the agenda. The Forum Secretary General Henry Puna said that the Pacific priorities and messages would be taken to the annual COP negotiations in UAE at the end of November.

The cruise ship, MS Noordam, docked at Vuna Wharf in Nuku’alofa this morning, with over 1,500 tourists. The vessel arrived at 8:00am after departing Vava’u at 5:00pm yesterday. While in Nuku'alofa, the ship delivered over 500kgs of school library books and other resources that were purchased with donations from passengers on the ship.

‘Akosita Lavulavu’s application to the courts for leave to appeal against a ruling by Acting Justice Langi, was refused in Nuku’alofa. Justice Randerson stated he had no hesitation in concluding that this appeal had no merit. There was nothing to suggest the judge will not deal with the case fairly, objectively and in accordance with her judicial oath, he said.
