I do not believe that domestic air travel is a common public good that benefits the whole of society for the Government to continue to run it at a loss. The cost of a Commission of Inquiry will be high...It will not contribute to the pending decision – to identify an airline to work with Lulutai and the public servants' Retirement Fund to provide domestic flights. If this is possible, then the Government should gradually sell its share in the Lulutai Airlines and focus on regulating the safety and reliability of domestic aviation. - Samiuela T. Tukuafu.

Katieli Mahe (39) and ‘Etimoni Toumolupe (39) will serve 18 months in prison each for the theft of two rolls of copper and aluminium cables and receiving stolen property from their former employer, Tonga Power Ltd. Justice Tupou delivered the sentences on 18 March in the Supreme Court, Nuku’alofa. Mahe admitted to two counts of theft, while Toumolupe admitted to two counts of receiving stolen property.

A gun and 600 rounds of ammunition were seized from the Tongan ferry MV Malau in Suva, Fiji Police confirmed this morning. The Fiji Times reported today that a Fiji Navy ship, RFNS Timo, had intercepted the ferry MV Malau and escorted it to Suva Harbour yesterday. The Tongan operator told Matangi Tonga today that the ship is free and is currently undergoing maintenance in Fiji.

As of today, 13 new cases of Dengue Fever were reported with positive rapid tests, which brings up the total cumulative cases to 266 in Tonga, the Ministry of Health stated in its Situation Report for 14 March. The Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) has received a first capitalisation contribution of 417,000,000 Japanese Yen, approximately USD$3 million, from the Government of Japan. The PRF is the first international financial institution to be collectively owned by Pacific Islands Forum member governments, dedicated to providing small-scale grant financing for Pacific communities.
