Tonga's government is embarking on a reform program "to change people’s mind-sets", the Prime Minister, Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva told a Press Conference that he called on March 29 at the Fa‘onelua Convention Centre in Nuku'alofa. An American, facing charges of murder in Tonga, escaped from the Vava’u Police this morning and fled on his yacht. Tonga Police are currently engaged in a dangerous confrontation with the man at sea, Northwest of Vava’u, and are attempting to re-apprehend him.

An American citizen, who remains detained in custody on charges relating to the death of his Canadian wife on a yacht in Neiafu, Vava'u, this year has been charged with murder. He is set to appear in October for arraignment.
