More arrests have been made in relation to the cocaine haul seized in Vava’u, said Tonga Police today.

The three foreign nationals who were arrested and charged in relation to a cocaine haul in Vava‘u, were today released on bail, at the Magistrate's Court in Neiafu. Robin and Brenda Cox, and Calvin Manuceau will be called to appear in court again on August 17.

The Magistrate’s Court in Neiafu is expected to hear the cases of those arrested in relation to the cocaine haul that washed up on Vava'u beaches. The cases will be mentioned on Monday, August 9.

Three people have been arrested in Neiafu and 2kg of cocaine seized by the Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce, in relation to the cocaine that washed up on Vava'u beaches recently.

Five more packets of cocaine were seized last night by the Tonga Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce, during a raid of a home in Ha'alaufuli, Vava'u. Eleven cocaine packets, including six handed over to Police this week, have been recovered after being washed up on shore. The total street value of the illicit drugs recovered is now estimated to be over $4 million pa'anga. Police suspect that more of the washed-up drugs are still in the community.

A 29-year-old woman is in stable condition at the hospital in Neiafu, after she was seriously injured in a home invasion on Sunday morning, June 6. A man has been arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm.

Samisoni Tu’i’onetoa and Sitiveni Pomale Moala have both been jailed for grievous bodily harm on two brothers in an altercation in ‘Utui last year.

Kapuana ‘Unga was sentenced to three-years imprisonment for causing serious bodily harm to a victim using a machete, at Ha’alaufuli, Vava’u in 2020. The judge said, “What you and the people who were with you were doing was most irresponsible and reckless that you did not stop to think of the consequences."

A 5,000kg shipment of some exceptionally large and healthy taro from smallholder farmers at Feletoa, Vava’u, has arrived in Nuku'alofa for export to New Zealand.
