Lord Fakafanua (40), who entered parliament in 2009 as a Noble’s Representative, has served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga since 2017. Today's ballot in the House was secret, but the numbers suggest that the Noble PM Designate attracted the support of at least seven of the People's Representatives.

Tonga should have a new Prime Minister, a Speaker and Deputy Speaker, and Cabinet Ministers by the second or third week of December. The Electoral Commissioner, Pita Vuki today, 24 November, confirmed that the Writ for the November 16 General Election has not been returned to the King, but should be returned on or before next Thursday, 30 November.
