A tsunami generated by a big Magnitude 8.1 earthquake off the coast of Mexico this evening is being projected toward the Pacific Islands. "The main beam is toward our area," said 'Ofa Fa'anunu tonight, after the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) activated a Tsunami Marine Warning, with a wave expected to reach Tonga at around 6:15am tomorrow morning (Saturday). Tonga is being "just cautious," said 'Ofa. "We are expecting less than one metre. It may be over one foot in Tonga but the tsunami warming centre is giving 1M for Samoa, Fiji and New Zealand."
