A meeting of the Legislative Assembly will be held on 16 May to unseat two Members of Parliament from their seats, after their elections were voided by the Supreme Court of Tonga. The date for the meeting was announced on 4 May, before a third member of parliament had his election declared void today by the Court. Three other election petitions remain pending.

Tonga has a new handbook to guide parliamentary reporters. The 88 pages bilingual Tongan/English, “Tonga Parliamentary Reporters’ Handbook” was launched by the Speaker Lord Fakafanua, at Parliament House, Nuku'alofa, this morning, 4 March 2021. But significantly, the new handbook makes no mention of the role of political parties in Tonga’s parliament.

A petition to Parliament calling for an investigation of seven Cabinet Ministers, including the Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva, for allegedly breaching the Constitution of Tonga, was submitted to the Speaker today Wednesday, May 30.
