It will cost around $45,000 pa‘anga for the Tongan Parliament to send a delegation of six people, including the Speaker Lord Fakafanua, “to show Parliament’s unwavering support for Mate Ma’a Tonga” on Saturday. But the Clerk of the House said the figure had yet to be finalised as some MPs who are overseas might join the delegation in Auckland.

A petition to Parliament calling for an investigation of seven Cabinet Ministers, including the Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva, for allegedly breaching the Constitution of Tonga, was submitted to the Speaker today Wednesday, May 30. A copy of the petition with 3330 signatures was also delivered to the King for his information.

After a rush by the Tonga Government to hold a parliament session yesterday 5 March in order to address the urgent needs of the country, it was decided that Parliament will have a two-day break as the Kingdom receives New Zealand’s Prime Minister Hon. Jacinda Ardern who arrives tonight for a one-day visit. Parliament will resume on Thursday 8 March.

'Akilisi Pohiva did not attend the opening of the Tongan Parliament 2018 session, this morning, 11 January and no mention of his absence was made, in what was called a "Huufi Fakalotofale 'o e Fale Alea 'o Tonga" or "in-house" session. The MPs will take their oath of office on a later day to be announced.
