Tonga's King Tupou VI said today from Auckland that he hoped Government and Parliament would continue to work together to revive the Tongan economy, which has been badly affected by the global financial crisis. He outlined projects that were being undertaken by government in the hope of energizing economic development in his speech that was read out by Prince Tu'ipelehake, accompanied by Prince Tungi and Lord Luani for the opening of a special session of the Tonga Legislative Assembly today.

HM King Tupou VI unveiled a plaque and cut a ribbon to open a new Vuna Wharf, reconstructed with a $32 million pa'anga loan from China, in time to welcome its first cruise ship, the Ocean Princess tomorrow Tuesday 11 December. The new wharf is expected to help drive the economy by attracting more cruise ships to Nuku'alofa.

A Remembrance Sunday Commemoration Service in memory of soldiers who died in wars in order for people to live in freedom in a peaceful world was held at Tonga's Cenotaph, Pangai Si'i, Nuku'alofa, yesterday November 12 on a beautiful sunny morning. Tonga has abundant food but it does not balance with our efforts to be active, and much fertile land was neglected, HM King Tupou VI said in opening Tongatapu's two-day Royal Agricultural Show 2012 at the Manamo'ui grounds in 'Atele, this afternoon Friday October 19. He urged Tongans to increase the acreage of land farmed from around 12 percent to make 50 percent of the land productive.
