In October 2024 Air Terminal Services (Tonga) Limited (ATS) was entered onto the International Air Transport Association’s register as having completed and achieved the highest available award being the IATA Safety Audit Ground Operations certificate (ISAGO). Mr Rene de Boer of the Netherlands, head of one of three international agencies for ISAGO, conducted the audit of ATS in March this year, and presented the certificate to ATS.

A local company, Air Terminal Services (Tonga) Ltd. this month achieved its ground safety registration with IATA – becoming one of only two ground handlers in the Pacific islands to meet the standards required by the international aviation association. ATS (Tonga) holds ground handling contracts with all international carriers into Tonga.

Tonga is ranked at no. 44 out of 107 countries this year, listed on the Henley Passport Index, which ranks all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The ranking is based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Asian countries are now world leaders when it comes to both global economic activity and global mobility, with Japan and Singapore holding the top spot ranked at no.1, while the Pacific Islands states are ranked between 39-62.
