Virgin Australia airline has temporarily suspended all international services and further cuts to their domestic network until 14 June 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Air New Zealand also announced cutting back on flights to the Pacific including Tonga between April and June.

Due to increased uncertainty in the Covid-19 outbreak, Air New Zealand has reduced its capacity across domestic and international routes, including a 26% reduction in Asia. Pacific Islands will experience capacity reductions of 6% through June. The airline's shareholders were told today that the financial impact on earnings will be more significant than previously estimated. The airline has implemented hiring freezes and capital expenditure deferrals.

Air New Zealand stated today that it will be reducing capacity on its Shanghai route throughout April, and Hong Kong route throughout April and May as a result of the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on customer demand.

Air New Zealand has cancelled its return flights to Tonga scheduled for 30 December due to maintenance issues with the Rolls-Royce engines on its Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Flights between New Zealand and Australia are also affected.

Strike notices that threatened to disrupt travel for 120,000 Air New Zealand customers over the three busiest travel days of the year, have been lifted after an agreement was reached with the the unions representing its aircraft maintenance and logistics workers, air New Zealand stated last night.
