
Seven people, including two couples, were arrested in separate Tonga Police operations conducted into alleged illicit drug activities in Lomalinita, Mapelu, and Sia'atoutai on Tongatapu, recently.
Tonga Police said tehy arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged distribution of illicit drugs in the Lomalinita area, a village in Vaini. The suspects included two men, aged 22 and 26, and the wife of one of the suspects, all from Fähefa. During the operation, police seized packages of cannabis, cash, and electronic devices.
Subsequent police inquiries at Fahefa led to the arrest of another man (32) for possession of illicit drugs (cannabis), drug utensils, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police also seized additional packs of cannabis, an unlicensed firearm and ammunitions, drug-related utensils, electronic devices, and cash believed to be connected to the alleged offending.
Mapelu couple
In a separate operation, a couple from Mapelu, a man (35) and his wife (31) were arrested on 17 May 2026 for alleged drug-related offences.
The male has been charged with possession of illicit drugs, possession of drug-related utensils and attempted bribery of members of the Tonga Police.
The wife has been charged with possession of drug-related utensils.
Ma'ufanga suspect
In a separate incident, a 37-year-old male from Ma'ufanga was arrested on 23 May 2026 in Sia'atoutai. He has been charged with possession of illicit drugs (methamphetamine) and possession of ammunition without a licence.
Tonga Police stated it remain steadfast in their commitment to combating illicit drugs. "Protecting the safety, security of all communities remains our highest priority."
