Tonga's biggest budget depends on donor pledges

The Minister of Finance, Hon. Lisiate 'Akolo has launched Tonga's biggest ever national budget amounting to T$357.6 million for the 2013-14 financial year, and expressed concern over low returns to government from public enterprises.

An increase of 11.08% for government ministries and govt. bodies in the current economic climate is not a prudent move. A smaller govt would mean less tax money being spent and the flow on effect is reduced regulation which stimulates the private sector. Are there any efficiencies or increased capacity building happening in the public service? Another point is that govt assisting business such as Real Tonga Airline, am sure that Chatham airlines never got the same form of assistance.
