ENERGY COMMISSION: ELECTRICITY TARIFF EFFECTIVE FROM 1 JANUARY 2024
The Tonga Competent Authority has approved to increase in the regulated price of diesel effective 18 December 2023. This has contributed to increase of 25.53 seniti per litre from the last regulated price of diesel in October 2023.
We are on a quarterly review of the regulated price of fuel which has increased the tariff by 4.72 seniti per kWh (7.1%). Additionally, this new tariff also include an increase in Non-Fuel Tariff by 2.44 seniti given the annual increase in CPI since the last tariff reset in January 2021 as required under Third Concession Contract. The total electricity tariff will increase from the current 99.01 seniti per kWh to 106.18 seniti per kWh.
The new starting tariff of 106.18 seniti/kWh is the new electricity tariff to adopt by Tonga Power Limited and will be reviewed on a quarterly basis with respect to the movement in diesel prices and also on an annual basis according to the movements in inflation.
The overall Power Generation from Renewable Energy (RE) Sources averages 14% of TPL’s total monthly power generation its impact on their prices is included in this tariff calculation
The revised tariff rates approved by the Energy Commission are as follows:
The revised tariff rates approved by the Energy Commission to be effective on 1 January 2024
NOTE: The Electricity Tariff is regulated by the Energy Act 2021 and administered by the Energy Commission. A process set down in the Concession Agreement between Tonga Power Limited and the Energy Commission determines the tariff adjustment. The Competent Authority is the Tongan Government Agency that sets the landed price of diesel which Tonga Power Limited uses for its power generation.
Thank you, Energy Commission
