I'm sure it represents
I'm sure it represents progress for Tonga's trade, but I am glad that the fences were not there on my last visit, or previous visits over the last 47 years. As a participant-observer in Tonga, with great love for Tonga, I am glad to have seen and made records of physical and social change, in Nuku'alofa and inland. Without a history of changing landscapes, we may lose a memory of what modern Tonga is built. I love to walk along the Nuku'alofa waterfront, and look at the views, feel the sea winds, so I hope that all the spaces for people to walk and relax will not be lost in the name of progress.
