July 4 marks new birthday for HM King Tupou VI

HM King Tupou VI will mark his birthday on a new date, tomorrow, July 4, the official birthday of his late father, King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV.

King Tupou VI (53) was born on July 12 but starting this year he will mark his birthday on July 4, (which ceased to be a public holiday after the death of King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, in 2006).

The Cabinet on July 2, declared two public holidays, July 4, the new birthday of HM King Tupou VI, and July 12 for the Royal Wedding of  HRH Crown Prince Tupouto'a 'Ulukalala and Hon Sinaitakala Tu'imatamoana 'i Fanakavakilangi Fakafanua.

Lanu Kilikili

Tomorrow, July 4, 2012, marks the end of the 100 nights since the burial of the late King George Tupou V, and a traditional Lanu Kilikili ceremony will be held at the Royal Tombs, Mala'e Kula.

King George Tupou V passed away in Hong Kong on March 18, 2012 and was interred on March 27.
