House does not know what to do with motion to dismiss auditor general
Monday, February 6, 2012 - 22:17
Three days after a motion to dismiss the auditor general was tabled into the Tongan Parliament by the Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano and the Minister of Finance, Hon. Sunia Fili, the House still could not figure out how to deal with the motion. From January 31 to February 2 the House appeared to have made one step forward to make a decision, and then two steps backward to where it ended up. From the House, by Pesi Fonua

It seems we have spent days
It seems we have spent days wasting our cash resources (to pay for the legislative assembly members salaries) trying to fire the Auditor General instead of going after the money that is missing. This is similar to someone reporting his neighber to the police for robbery. The prosecutor now decides to spend his time prosecuting the witness rather than going after the culprit. The crime of robbery is a tolerable offense, but it is a heinous crime to upset your neighbor and the relationship there is.It makes sense if the neighbor has a cow that we get free milk from. If it is the case, may be it is about time for us to raise our own milking cows so we don't have to rely on the neighbor as much anymore. The house have gone as far as trying to force the Auditor General to write a letter of apology for his comment which they deemed offensive. Why don't they think of writing a letter apologising for mishandling the thousands of aid funds we can't account for?If the missing money has been declared to be "poor record keeping" how can the Prime Minister say it was used properly? How does he know that if there is no record? Did he have a vision?I wish that the four days they spent figuring out how to get rid of the straight shooting Auditor General, they were talking about creating jobs, exportation of the local produces, fight global warming by more renewable energy and less fossil fuel, problems with public restrooms, etc. etc.If the whole magic is to save our face some embarrassment, we should think of a better way to do it because the Prime Minister and Legislative Assembly have caused more embarrassments in the process.
