Three Tongans have been deported from New Zealand while another person left voluntarily as a result of their criminal records being wiped-off by Tonga Police. Australia has also cancelled the visas of three Tongans while a fourth visa is being considered for cancellation. Meanwhile, the Tonga Police are continuing to investigate a practice that the Police Commissioner said had damaged Tonga's reputation because official documents with the police letterhead were sent telling a lie to gain access to another country.

Tonga's Deputy Commissioner of Police Taniela Faletau (56) has taken up voluntary retirement effective March 1, after over 30-years of service. Trained in New Zealand the top cop was farewelled with a parade at the Police Headquarters in Longolongo, on Wednesday February 20.

Two very high-ranking Tongan police officers are under an investigation into allegations that 33 convictions of Tongan citizens were ordered to be "wiped" from police records over several years, under an unwritten policy that was tacitly approved by a former and now deceased Minister of Police.
