Four ambassadors to Tonga presented their credentials to HM King Tupou VI today, 8 November, in a formal ceremony at the Royal Palace in Nuku'alofa during Diplomatic Week, marking the beginning of the ambassadorships.

King Tupou VI and Chinese President Xi Jinping have exchanged congratulatory messages on November 2 to mark two decades of diplomatic ties between their countries. The 20th anniversary of China and Tonga’s diplomatic ties was also celebrated on the same day at the Chinese Embassy in Nuku‘alofa.

Tonga and China’s relationship appears to be on a high, according to speakers at a 'Welcome-back Reception' for 64 delegates from the Ministries of Education and Tonga Assets Management Association Ltd, who recently attended seminars in China with their Chinese counterparts.

By May 24, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could become the 73rd country whose citizens may enter Tonga without a pre-entry visa - or may be not. The UAE government is telling its citizens the visa waiver will start on May 24, based on an MOU signed with a representative of Tonga's King Tupou VI on April 23. However, it is not yet clear whether or not the Tonga Government has approved it.
