King Tupou VI and Chinese President Xi Jinping have exchanged congratulatory messages on November 2 to mark two decades of diplomatic ties between their countries. The 20th anniversary of China and Tonga’s diplomatic ties was also celebrated on the same day at the Chinese Embassy in Nuku‘alofa.

The Canterbury Crusaders have enlisted 18-year-old Leicester Fainga‘anuku to play in the 2019 Super Rugby season. Leicester recently played as an outside back for the Tasman Makos in New Zealand’s Mitre 10 competition, and represented New Zealand at the Under-20s World Cup in June this year where New Zealand finished in fourth place.

Tonga’s 2017-18 Parliament was scheduled to end on 31 October 2018, but the session has continued into November because of difficulties the House faces in processing a Petition signed by 3,330 people calling for the Impeachment of the Prime Minister and six Cabinet Ministers. There is a 75% chance that at least two tropical cyclones will occur during Tonga's 2018/19 cyclone season, which started on November 1 to end on April 30, 2019. At least one could be a severe cyclone, Tonga Met advised.

King Tupou VI commissioned a newly renovated Likamonu Hospital on the northernmost part of Tonga today. The hospital was damaged in a devastating tsunami in 2009.
