U. S. Navy Admiral Timothy J. Keating, on a first visit to Tonga since taking command of the U.S. Pacific Command in March, last night expressed his thanks and gratitude to Tonga who has a second contingent of troops deployed in Iraq.

Tonga's Iraqi-bound troops have arrived in Kuwait, where they will spend two weeks acclimatizing to the Middle Eastern weather, prior to their deployment. The Kalonikali reports the troops trained with M16 rifles in Pendleton, California, and took a crash course in basic Arabic as well as Iraqi culture. According to spokesperson Sergeant Siaosi Moleni, they missed the Tongan food, but "found solace in ice cream which was available in copious quantity at all meal times." Best of wishes in the remaining games. Unfortunately, we have a performance lapse in our game that very sharp players from the other side can take advantage of. The only pacific islands teams that...s looked sharp, than tried to remain sharp during games have been Samoa and Fiji.
