Demolition of an old Vaiola Hospital Building started yesterday June 2, when the Princess Regent HRH Princess Pilolevu officially broke a glass window on the 39 year old building that was opened by her father on June 4, 1971.

The Japanese Preliminary Study Team, in Tonga from June 21 until July 11, are carrying out a field survey of the site for the project. Their findings and recommendations were presented in a meeting between Mr Tatsuya Murase from Japan's International Cooperation Agency JICA and Dr 'Ofanoa. The Minutes of the Meeting were signed today.

Two Israeli eye specialists, Dr Iris Moros and Dr Yair Elhalal were in Tonga conducting an on site ‘eye camp’ at Vaiola Hospital, Nuku‘alofa. During their stay from April 22 to May 1, they carried out 26 eye operations, and laser treatment of diabetes patients with eye problems, and looked at other needs of Tongan eye patients.
