A Tropical Disturbance, TD02F, located west of Fiji, no longer poses a threat to Tonga, the Tonga Meteorological Service advised this morning, 3 January. “The potential to develop into a Tropical Cyclone remains very low with no further intensification.”

A tropical disturbance (TD03F) located north of Fiji, is forecast to track through southern Tonga waters (Tele-ki-Tokelau and Tele-ki-Tonga) by next Wednesday January 12, the Tonga Meteorological said today. The potential for this system to develop into a Tropical Cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours is low.

Tonga Met are seeing the likelihood for the onset of an El Nino event which brings a higher risk of Tropical Cyclones to Tonga. Less than a week after Severe Tropical Cyclone Tino another Tropical Depression (TD05F) has developed just east of the neighboring Samoa Islands, Tonga Met reported this morning.

A slow moving Tropical Disturbance 06F is forecast to deliver gales to the Niuas today, and has the potential to develop into a Tropical Cyclone in the next 48 hours, the Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre advised at 8:00am today, Thursday.
