An additional US$10 million has been approved by the World Bank to help Tonga continue recovering from Tropical Cyclone Gita that struck Tongatapu and ‘Eua causing widespread damage in February. TC Gita, a category 4 storm, is the strongest cyclone to severely impact Tonga since 1982.

Tongans who have hearing problems will soon be able to hear better under the "Tonga May Hear Project", where new hearing aids worth more than $2,000 each will be donated for the first time by the Starkey Hearing Foundation, visiting Tonga in August. Anyone with hearing difficulties is encouraged to visit their nearest health clinics for screening to benefit from the multi-million project.

Crowds of families queued at the government's Treasury today waiting to get cash handouts in the form of cheques from a government account. The people waiting for the handouts said their homes were either damaged or destroyed by severe Tropical Cyclone Gita in February. The hand out organised by the Ministry of Finance they said aimed to help them rebuild their homes.
