An official tree planting ceremony at the St George Building recognised Tonga's commitment to hosting the Pacific Resilience Facility, during a visit of a technical mission from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. The General Manager of PRF, Ms Finau Soqo, headed the PIF technical mission to assess and assure the member's readiness to sign the treaty that is set for 2026.

The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Economic Ministers and officials are meeting in Nuku'alofa today, for a Special Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM). Among other things, they will discuss the establishment of the Pacific Resilience Facility, the first Pacific-led, member-owned and managed and people-centred climate and disaster resilience financing facility, which will be headquartered in Tonga.

The Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) has received a first capitalisation contribution of 417,000,000 Japanese Yen, approximately USD$3 million, from the Government of Japan. The PRF is the first international financial institution to be collectively owned by Pacific Islands Forum member governments, dedicated to providing small-scale grant financing for Pacific communities. It will be headquartered in Tonga.
