The sports world is mourning the passing of the late basketball great, Kobe Bryant (41), who is credited for his efforts in boosting the popularity of Basketball around the world. The LA Laker super star and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash in California, on Sunday 26 January. Tributes flowed from a few high profile Tongan athletes who were lucky enough to be acquainted with Bryant.

NBA star Steven Adams (23) has signed a $100 Million (USD) contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The lucrative four-year contract makes Steven the wealthiest person of Tongan heritage in the world. The Oklahoma City Thunder announced the deal on Monday October 31. Steven Adams is the brother of Valerie Adams who visited Tonga this week in her new role as New Zealand’s Pacific Sports Ambassador.
