Australian Defence has gifted His Majesty’s Armed Forces (HMAF) a shipment of bedding, manchester, white goods, and health and hygiene packs on the commencement of HMAF’s 73rd Basic Recruit Intake Course beginning on Friday, 23 February 2024, under a Gender, Peace and Security initiative.

The VOEA Savea departed Masefield Navy Base for the last time on Saturday, April 13, sailing past the Nuku’alofa waterfront and Royal Palace on its way to Australia. It will be replaced by a new patrol boat named VOEA Ngahau Koula (Golden Arrow).

A platoon of Royal Tonga Marines from His Majesty’s Armed Forces (HMAF) has joined the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) to evacuate around 11,000 residents from the active volcanic Ambae Island in Vanuatu on 30 September.

Vava'u, Tonga
Twisted ankles, severe dehydration, and even a bite from a gigantic Golden Orb Weaver spider were just a few of the maladies a medical team from the Nevada Air Guard treated in Vava'u, during Exercise Tafakula, a biennial, multi-national military exercise hosted by the Kingdom of Tonga in late July. The medics were requested by Tonga to also evaluate medical readiness of HMAF.

Tonga’s army has entered a formal partnership program with the National Guard of Nevada that will strengthen their military cooperation in a new working relationship. The partnership declaration was signed in Nuku'alofa on April 11, by Brigadier General Tau'aika 'Uta'atu of His Majesty's Armed Forces and Brigadier General William Burks of the National Guard of the State of Nevada, USA.
