FROM OUR ARCHIVES: Domestic violence statistics in Tonga are disturbing, women have died, and the high rate of physical, sexual and emotional abuse impacts the whole community. It is shocking to see Tonga, a Christian country, bashing its daughters as soon as they become women, community leaders said in Nuku'alofa on April 12, 2013.

Christmas is just around the corner. But, I bet the festive spirit in Nukunuku, will be ... gloomy I think. Dust, is now the order of our days twenty-four-seven for two months running...houses, drinking water and from new born to the elderly have their dose of dust every day. When will the road work complete? It left us to wonder what went wrong? Whether there was adequate funding for the project?- Witcliffe TM.

A Vaiola Hospital surgeon Dr Saia Piukala called for traditional and religious healers and all Tongans to become involved in the talanoa on breast cancer in order to save more lives. On the eve of World Cancer Day the World Health Organization (WHO) urged governments to strengthen national control programmes, including by raising awareness, amid an alarming rise of cancer cases. WHO's Western Pacific Region bears a significant share of the global cancer burden, accounting for 32% of all cancers in 2008.
