A consignment of 36,800 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses, funded by Japan, and provided by COVAX, arrived in Tonga on an AIr New Zealand cargo flight last night, 25 August. "While I sincerely hope that Tonga could maintain its COVID-free society, after fully getting vaccinated, we will have to reconsider our border restrictions so that we could get along with other countries," said the Japanese ambassador to Tonga.

New York Times reporting: The Food and Drug Administration on Monday granted full approval to Pfizer-BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine for people 16 years and older, a decision that is likely to set off a cascade of vaccine requirements by hospitals, colleges and universities, corporations and other organizations.

As long as there are infections in a country, it is impossible for humans to completely defeat the virus. However, globally, there are still outstanding problems such as insufficient vaccine production capacity, inequitable distribution and uneven vaccination. The COVAX Initiative expects to release first doses of the Pfizer/BioNTec vaccine and the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine during the first half of 2021 to COVAX Facility participants. Twelve South Pacific countries are included in its first “interim distribution forecast” that targets at least 3% of their populations.
