Secondary schools rugby season fever drew crowds to watch fierce competition returning to the field on Friday 22 May.
At Apifoou College in Touliki, Tonga College ‘Atele defeated Havelu Middle School 17-7 in the Under-14A division in one of the day’s featured matches.
On the adjacent field, Liahona Middle School faced Havelu Middle School in the Under-13B grade as simultaneous matches kept supporters engaged throughout the day.

The annual competition once again highlighted the strong passion for rugby among Tonga’s secondary schools, with students, alumni and families turning out in large to support their respective teams.
Matches were held across various venues including Teufaiva Stadium, Apifoou College sports field and Tupou High School rugby field as schools from around Tongatapu opened their 2026 campaigns.
Prince Taufa’ahau opened the competition representing Tupou College Toloa in the Grade 1A division against Liahona High School, adding excitement to the opening day.
With school rivalries intensifying, authorities urged students to refrain from engaging in school-related fights, warning that disorderly behaviour will not be treated lightly by authorities.
