
More than 60 students and graduates from the University of the South Pacific (USP) were recognised for academic achievement at a Medals and Prizes Ceremony held in Suva, Fiji.
A total of 63 awards were presented, including 15 Gold Medals, as well as special prizes and certificates across various disciplines. Students qualified for the awards by meeting set academic criteria, including a cumulative grade point average of at least 4.0 for major honours.
The awards were presented by Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council and the Interim Management Group, Siosiua ‘Utoikamanu, along with sponsors and Heads of Schools. He acknowledged the achievements of the recipients and the support of their families.
Among the top awards, the Vice-Chancellor and President’s All-Rounder Gold Medal for the female graduate with the best combined academic performance and community service record was awarded to Busra Shaheenaz Sakib. She said balancing studies, internships and work required sustained effort, and credited her success to family support and guidance from lecturers.

Maliumoeao Fa’asolo received the award for Most Outstanding Graduate in Mathematics. He said the recognition reflected the support of his family, mentor and peers during his studies.
Eligible candidates included graduates from USP ceremonies held in September 2025 at Laucala Campus and in Solomon Islands, as well as the October 2025 ceremony in Tonga. Students graduating at upcoming ceremonies in Suva on 16 and 17 April 2026 were also considered.

The Medals and Prizes Ceremony is part of USP’s graduation programme, with formal graduation events scheduled at the Vodafone Arena in Suva over two days.
The University’s graduation ceremonies will be held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva tomorrow, Thursday, 16 April and Friday, 17 April 2026. Hundreds of students will officially graduate n the presence of their families, friends, staff and the wider USP community.
