A three-day Tonga Police Annual Conference 2026 has brought together commissioned officers from across the country to enhance leadership capability, strengthen organisational performance, and strategically plan for the evolving demands of modern policing.

The conference was officially opened yesterday, 11 February, by the Prime Minister and Minister for Police, Hon. Lord Fakafanua, under the theme “Organisational Leadership and Future Proofing Tonga Police."

Lord Fakafanua acknowledged the Royal Tonga Police Band's rendition of a hymn and spoke about the foundational Christian values that underpin Tonga’s Constitution and national identity.

He said the freedom to choose between good and bad, “...lies at the heart of what is expected of us as law enforcement officers to uphold and enforce the law with integrity.”

The PM encouraged officers to lead by example, demonstrating through their words, actions, and attitudes the values they are sworn to uphold.

Tonga Police expressed appreciation to the Tonga–New Zealand Policing Programme and the Tonga–Australian Policing Partnership for their continued support. Their partnership plays a vital role in building leadership capacity, enhancing professional standards, and strengthening organisational capability within the force.

Tonga Police stated this conference reaffirmed their commitment to integrity, accountability, and community-focused policing as they continue to serve and protect the country.
