Illegal firearms and ammunitions seized in Vava'u

Illegal firearms and ammunitions, among other unlawful items were seized by Tonga Police in a recent special operation in Vava'u.

The prohibited and controlled items includes five firearms (rifles), 16,037 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition, two firearm scopes, and 40 fireworks.

Tonga Police stated today that investigations into these seizures are ongoing.

"Several matters are currently at advanced stages of investigation and are awaiting their first court hearing, while other investigations have only recently commenced," Tonga Police stated.

They also work closely with the Ministry of Customs and Revenue, and other partner agencies to prevent the unlawful possession, importation, and use of firearms and related items.

These collaborative efforts are critical to maintaining community safety and upholding the law in Vava'u.

Tonga Police stated they remained committed to protecting the public and would continue to take firm action against illegal activities that pose a risk to the safety and security of our communities.
