Man arrested with meth packages in Havelu

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

A 50-year-old male from Havelu was arrested following a police operation on Saturday, 7 February, during which authorities say they seized several packages of methamphetamine, drug-related utensils, cash, electronic devices, and the vehicle involved in the incident.

Tonga Police said that they acted on information received regarding a suspected sale of methamphetamine from a residence in Havelu.

"An operation was conducted, and upon arrival at the location, officers observed the suspect leaving the residence in a vehicle.”

Police followed the vehicle to a nearby area, where the suspect attempted to flee.

“He was swiftly apprehended without incident," Tonga Police stated.

Meanwhile, Police seized the evidence believed to be linked to the alleged offending.

The suspect has been charged with possession of illicit drugs (methamphetamine) and possession of drug utensils.

He is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.
